Government Department Develops Border Security Research Focus

Departmental faculty members Dr. Jason Ackleson and Dr. Yosef Lapid are developing a dynamic research group to study pressing security, migration, and border policy challenges facing the United States in the post-9/11 environment. Working within a prestigious international network of scholars, faculty and student research teams will embark on a number of projects that will examine these issues over the next several years.
This international network of scholarship was recently energized by a major academic colloquium organized by the Government Department in March 2008; Entitled “Borders, Technology, and Security: Strategic Responses to New Challenges.” The conference was part of the national security colloquium series sponsored by US Army War College Strategic Studies Institute. Scholars from around the world came to NMSU to discuss the important and complex intersection of borders, technology, and security.
